The Australian and New Zealand Society for Mass Spectrometry (ANZSMS) has awarded Professor Christian Hartinger from the School of Chemical Sciences the 2019 Morrison Medal.

The award recognises Christian’s pioneering research into the development of organometallic anticancer agents and studies on their modes of action using ESI- and ICP-MS techniques.

The Morrison medal honors the contributions of Professor Jim Morrison to the development of mass spectrometry in Australia, and is awarded in recognition of significant achievements in an area of mass spectrometry by a mass spectrometrist currently residing in Australia or New Zealand.

To receive the medal, Christian will present the Morrison lecture at the 27th biennial ANZSMS conference held in Auckland in early February 2019.

“To receive the Morrison Medal is a huge honour, as it is the first award I've received for work in the area of analytical chemistry," says Christian.

"It shows that this research is valued beyond the borders of the biological inorganic chemistry field and I hope that it inspires more research into developing new methods and using unconventional methods to understand the modes of action of anticancer metallodrugs.“
